Post Your Cases > LAST following fetal thoracocentesis and amniodrainage with infiltrative anesthesia

We report a case of a fetal procedure complicated with LAST, probably caused by an overdose of local anesthetic (LA) during infiltrative anesthesia, successfully treated with intravenous lipid emulsion therapy (one bolus of 1.5 ml/kg + infusion at 0.25 ml/kg/min for an hour), and we call for the attention of the fetal medicine specialist who needs to be aware of the potential risks of the use of LA.
The patient was a pregnant woman who suffered tonic-clonic seizures and required orotracheal intubation. She did not developed cardiac arrest. Eight hours later of administering intravenous lipid emulsion a C-section was performed under general anesthesia (the baby was delivered alive) and she was woken up with ad integrum sensorium restitution.
